The almost fanatical fans of Star Wars: The Force Awakens have a lot to rejoice with the third and final trailer of the upcoming movie released earlier today. And I am not shy to say I could not contain my excitement watching the trailer. The movie lands on planet earth on December 17th and the new trailer is possibly the last glimpse at the upcoming movie before the release. The latest trailer evokes the soul of the original trilogy. So in case you live in a cave world and have missed out on the trailer, you can check it out here:

Was it not amazing? In the 138-second long trailer, Disney has blessed us with new footage for us to pour and salivate over. Let’s dive right into breaking down the trailer of Star Wars Episode VII scene by scene and try to figure out the hints it lays out for us the Star Wars fans. Possible spoilers ahead so read on with caution, you have been warned.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Rey

The trailer opens with this shot, the character is Rey differently dressed in scavenger garb. This is very similar to what Leia wore during Han’s rescue in Return of the Jedi, when she is dressed as the Ubese Bounty Hunter Boushh. Mother and daughter alike?

Star Wars The Force Awakens Star Destroyer

This humongous cavernous space has a lot of familiar markings. This looks like the hangar bay of a Star Destroyer. Hinting that Rey is on a desert planet, Jakku and not Luke’s Tatooine. Jakku is the site of the climatic batter between The Empire and The Rebels.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Rey and BB-8

This shot is reminiscent of Episove IV, with a main character walking through the vast dunes along with a droid leaving tracks in the sand by her side. The voice asks “Who are you?”. Rey replies, “I’m no one.” in a manner similar to Game of Thrones’ Arya.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Spacecraft in sky

The skies of Rey’s home-world does not look as busy as that of Mos Eisley. The trailer cuts as if she seems to stop and stare at the ship as it flies away while she is working with scrap she possibility pulled out of the Star Destroyer. We think this is just some smart editing and does not necessarily mean are connected. It could be shot of Rey leaving the planet in a spacecraft later in the movie.

Star Wars The Force Awakens The First Order

These storm-troopers look like they’re ready for war. Galactic Empire’s sort of successor The First Order is an military and political organisation, is at war with the Resistance for control of the galaxy.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Finn

Finn, was the first character we saw in the initial trailer, as a Storm-trooper. We see him here remove his helmet, hinting that he is troubled and could possibly defect to the Resistance.

Star Wars The Force Awakens TIE Fighter

This TIE Fighter with its snazzy red trim is seen hurtling down towards what looks like the surface of Jakku, though the absence of any other ship nearby to cause the damage hints that it could possibly be sabotaged with Finn in the TIE.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Finn on Jakku

After crash-landing Finn walks over the dunes and is looking at the settlement across the desert span. The settlement is barely a village, indicating that Jakku might be even more towards the outer rims of the galaxy than even Tatooine.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Ren

The black and red iconography in the First Order screams of evil and we are loving it. This is Kylo Ren standing on what looks like a deck of a Star Destroyer, indicating that they have liberated some of them from the Empire’s fleet or they are still being built at the Kuat Drive Yards. Ren could be staring out in space at what possibly looks like construction of the new Death Star-ish orb spotted on the poster. As Ren says “Nothing will stand in our way” the hint is too obvious that whatever they are building here they think we will give them an advantage.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Ren's Mask

Memories of Darth Vader cannot be avoided looking at Ren’s mask which has Vader-esque qualities, though it does not give that same look instead looking more boyish rather than Vader evil.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Darth Vader Crumpled Mask

Vader’s mask is crumpled and placed on a pedestal. Ren promises  to “finish what he started.” Could Ren be somehow related to the original trilogy bad boy Anakin Skywalker? Or did Ren go to Endor’s forest moon and grabbed it from the funeral pyre?

Star Wars The Force Awakens Poe Dameron

Poe Dameron is an X-Wing pilot for the new Resistance and it seems in Force Awakens he is filling in the shoes of Hans Solo did in the original trilogy. Solo was tortured by Vader and here Ren is the torturer of Dameron.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Millennium Falcon

The Millennium Falcon is back! Here the Falcon is being chased by TIE Fighters through the wreckage on Jakku. The question is Han flying it or has the Falcon changed hands again with maybe Dameron the new pilot.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Rey and Finn

Rey and Finn are united together on the Millennium Falcon and it seems like they have no idea about the Jedi, the Dark side and the Force. It was assumed in the expanded universe that the end of the Emperor blew the lid on it all but that looks unlikely. More like being treated as stories by the newer generation here.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Han Solo

Han is explaining to them that the stories about what happened were all true.  It is likely that the end of the Empire wasn’t well publicized contrary to the perception that was built by the parties at the end of Return of the Jedi. Or was it that with the fall of Empire the galaxy was kicked into technological dark age?

Star Wars The Force Awakens Kylo Ren

Klyo Ren is standing with a group of heavily armed guard. Are they Sith? Are they scavenging through the galaxy for Sith relics? The trees around suggest this is Endor’s moon? Hence the earlier reference of Darth Vader mask being grabbed.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Battle Stormtroopers

The lush forest backdrop of this battle between stormtroopers and resistance forces reminds of the Wookies defense on Kashyyk in Revenge of the Sith. And the buildings on the ground, it bears a close resemblance to the Rebel’s Yavin VI base in Episode IV.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Finn and Poe

The budding friendship between Dameron and Finn is evident here and it looks like Finn has renounced the First Order and joined the Resistance against it. Though a question does come to mind from the earlier scene where Dameron is tortured by Ren, could he have been forced to act as a double agent for the Dark side? Or was Poe captured after this battle that is hinted in this scene as Resistance fighters are running in the background.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Solo, Finn and Rey

It is easy to get distracted by the big waddling droid just like Finn is, but the subject of interest is the building ahead.  This looks likely to be the hiding place of pirate Maz Kanata, played by Lupita Nyong’o. The voice in the opening sequence where Rey is asked “Who are you?” could be that of Kanata who could be drafted into help our heroes in finding someone.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Luke Skywalker

That someone could be this person in this shot. Robotic Hand, Big Jedi-esque cloak, faithful old R2-D2 beside him. This someone could be Luke Skywalker. Its well-known knowledge that Mark Hammill is in the movie, but he’s been absent from the poster to this latest trailer. Rey and Finn could be searching for Skywalker, who if alive would be a Jedi Master.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Captain Phasma

Clad in chrome armor and leading First Order’s storm-troopers is Captain Phasma, played by Gwendoline Christie.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Chewie

Everyone’s favorite 200-year old wookie, Chewie is back!

Star Wars The Force Awakens BB-8

BB-8 has been drafted in as an astromech duty just like R2-D2 in the earlier Star Wars movies. This looks like a pitched battle with the horde of TIE fighters coming over the horizon of what looks like Hoth but could be some other ice planet.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Leia and Han

For the first time Solo is reunited here with Leia. The emotions convey that they are scared for someone who might not be coming back? Maybe Rey? Could she be their daughter?

Star Wars The Force Awakens Finn with Luke's lightsaber

Finn is lit by the glow of the very familiar blue lightsaber. It looks like Finn has got his hands on Luke’s first blade which the young Skywalker lost during his fight with Darth Vader when his hand was sliced off.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Finn against Ren

Kylo Ren is seen without his helmet as he comes in swinging hard and heavy like Vader. This could be the lightsaber battle which could have fans go nuts over or it could be a battle between a battle harden Ren against Finn without any Jedi training.

We are super excited about this film, are you?

The JJ Abrams directed film is doing a very good of evoking the spirit and soul of the original trilogy which was missing from the prequel trilogy. Missing from the trailers are Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Glesson and Max Von Sydow.  Benicio Del Toro has also been reportedly cast as another Star Wars villain, if that is true could Ren be another Vader-esque lapdog for a bigger Emperor like villian or is Ren the big bad wolf?

The trailer is giving all the proper indications that Star Wars: The Force Awakens could be this generations definitive Sci-Fi movie. Leave us your thoughts and comments on our breakdown. We would love to see any alternative perspective you might have. The Force is looking to be strong with the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
